The neighborhood vet that never got corporate

Paws & Claws has been on Trousdale Drive for decades. Dr. Michele Sandefur bought it in 2004, and Dr. Meg Roth now owns it. It has stayed independent and doctor-owned the whole way.

How we work

We are a three-doctor hospital. That is deliberate. It means the doctor who sees your dog this year is the same one who saw him last year, and the assistant who draws blood knows he hates his back feet touched. Dr. Meg Roth owns the practice. Dr. Sandefur, who owned it from 2004, and Dr. Parham, here since 2007, practice alongside her. Dawn, our practice manager, started on opening day.

We practice good medicine without the upsell. You will get a written estimate before any procedure, a plain explanation of what we found and what it means, and our honest opinion about what can wait. If your pet needs a specialist, we will say so and call ahead to the people we trust.

What we believe

  • The relationship is the medicine. Knowing a pet over years is how you catch the small change that matters.
  • Cost is part of the conversation. Reviews mention our pricing because we talk about it openly, every time.
  • Prevention beats treatment. An annual exam, current vaccines, and year-round parasite prevention prevent most of the emergencies we see.
  • Cats are not small dogs. We take our time with cats, and clients with difficult cats tell us it shows.

In clients' words

★★★★★ The team at Paws and Claws is second to none. They have cared for our beloved dogs for 17 years, treating our fur family members like they were their own: our dogs Peanut and Percy, cats we've fostered, and even a rat. Convenient, affordable, professional and compassionate. Heidi B.
★★★★★ We brought our Siamese for his first visit last week, after spending an enormous amount of time and money at another vet. I am impressed and so pleased at the amount of time and expertise given to my kitty. I feel like I'm now getting vet care I feel confident about. Marcia H.
★★★★★ Very reasonably priced. We have now taken 2 dogs to the wonderful vets at Paws and Claws. They are honest, helpful and have wonderful follow up and communication. From being greeted by Allie who always smiles in the waiting room, to the kind nurses, to the knowledgeable doctors. P. P.
