If your pet cannot breathe, has collapsed, or is bleeding heavily, do not call. Go directly to the nearest emergency hospital below.

Go to an emergency hospital now if your pet

  • Is struggling to breathe, or gums are blue, white, or grey
  • Has collapsed or cannot stand
  • Is having a seizure lasting more than a few minutes, or repeated seizures
  • Has a swollen, hard belly and is retching without producing anything
  • Was hit by a car or fell from a height, even if walking
  • Ate antifreeze, rat poison, xylitol, a large amount of chocolate, or human medication
  • Is a male cat straining in the litter box and producing nothing
  • Has bleeding that does not stop with five minutes of pressure
  • Is in labor and has been straining for more than an hour without a puppy or kitten
