What to expect
Common procedures include spay and neuter, mass and tumor removal, bladder stone removal, wound repair, and abdominal surgery. For orthopedic or specialty surgery we refer to the boarded surgeons at Nashville Veterinary Specialists and BluePearl and coordinate the follow-up care here.
Every surgical patient has pre-anesthetic bloodwork, an IV catheter, warming, and continuous monitoring by a veterinary assistant whose only job that hour is your pet.
You get written home-care instructions, pain medication, and a direct number to call with questions. Recheck visits after surgery are included.
Common questions
When should I spay or neuter?
For most cats and small dogs, around six months. For large-breed dogs we often recommend waiting until twelve to eighteen months for joint health. The doctor will give you a recommendation for your pet's breed and size.
Does my pet need to fast?
Yes. No food after 10 PM the night before. Water is fine until you leave the house. We will confirm the drop-off time when you schedule.
Will my pet stay overnight?
Almost never. Routine surgeries go home the same afternoon once your pet is awake, warm, and comfortable.
